I tried making it smoother by having a scene as large as all the rooms linked together. But that didn't work for more than 4 rooms or so.
So I made a scene for each room, that included a bit of the neighboring rooms. That way I could make an animation when changing scenes where first the camera moves towards the edge in the first room, then there is the scene change with the camera starting on the edge of the new room and an animation moves the camera to the middle of the room.
I loved the original submachine games, and this was such a fantastic demake/homage. Really clever puzzles that felt at home on the gameboy. I hope you expand on this in the future to make a full game!

Nice lil' game!
Thanks! It was a cool project
I just started a very similar project, it's very impressive. How were you able to make the screen scroll like that using GB Studio?
